Wood: Return To Cubs Was 'No Brainer'
After playing for the Chicago Cubs for a decade, Kerry Wood became beloved by the fans. And after three seasons away from Wrigley Field, Wood is returning and Cubs' fans couldn't be happier.
"It's bringing me joy too," Wood said on the Danny Mac Show of his return to the organization that drafted him 1995.

Wood's role on the 2011 Cubs will be much different than when he was here from 2000-09, but that doesn't bother him. He simply wanted to return home.
"I'm not the elite, prime-time player anymore. I'm not the guy on the team. It's a low money [contract]. I'm not closing. I'm not starting. My role is to get the ball to somebody else. For me, it was a no brainer. I came back home. I live there, my family is there. I feel like I belong to this Cubs' family and I have a chance to help the team out. So it was a no brainer for me."
Notes:
- The Cubs weren't the only Chicago team that showed interest in Wood or that he considered joining for the 2011 season.
"They were in the mix for sure, they were very close," Wood said of his talks with the White Sox. When it came down to it Wood's choice wasn't about money, but wanting to return to the Cubs' family.
- On Wednesday the Cubs announced Keith Moreland as the next color analyst for the radio broadcast, a position that was once rumored to be in the cards for Wood. And that's a rumor that he quickly shot down.
"Never considered it," Wood said when asked if he would want a career in the Cubs' booth. "Would probably never never do it. I wouldn't say never never, but I'm not a big talker."
