Wood: 'I'm A Cub, It's Just A Perfect Fit'
Kerry Wood was born and raised in Irving, Texas. But in a way, Wood is returning home, to Chicago.
The Cubs drafted the right handed pitcher out of MacArthur High School in the 1995 Amateur Draft, and he spent ten season on the North Side.
Wood admitted that he never really wanted to leave the Cubs after the 2008 season. But by returning to the Cubs, he has the chance to stay a Cub for the rest of his career.
"I've always wanted that," Wood said at a press conference on Friday. "It's something that I've always felt strongly about. Me being here in Chicago, my wife, my kids, and we're going to be here for a long time. Going to raise a family here."
While Wood may have left for three seasons, deep down inside he never changed. He may have had more lucrative contract offers from other teams, but once he had a chance to talk with Jim Hendry, at the the funeral of Cubs' legend Ron Santo, he knew where he belonged.
"I'm a Cub," he said. "It's just a perfect fit for myself and my family at this point."
