Woman's Identity Stolen For A Penny's Worth Of Porn
BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- A Buffalo Grove woman recently discovered that her bank account had been hacked, in what may be the lowest-paying identity theft case in human history.
The woman noticed a purchase she had not made charged on her bank statement Sept. 27.
The purchase cost 1 cent.
Someone had gone through the trouble of hacking her account and printing out checks with her name and account number on them, but with an address on the 11500 block of South Karlov Avenue in Alsip.
The offender then used one of the fraudulent checks for a one-cent purchase. The victim printed out an online copy of the check and called the business to which it had been made out.
It was a pornographic website.
The woman notified police and had her account closed.
There are no reports of anyone in custody
