Woman Who Inspired Rosie The Riveter Dies
LANSING, Mich. An icon of World War II has died at the age of 86.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's John Hultman reports, the name Geraldine Hoff Doyle might not be familiar to you, but her face certainly is. Her image was said to be the model for Rosie the Riveter on posters in the '40's.

She was a symbol of women's power here in the states while the boys were overseas in Europe and the Pacific.
The Chicago Tribune reports Doyle was operating a metal-stamping machine when a United Press photographer took a picture of her. The "We Can Do It" poster image has been reproduced many times.
A few years ago she said it's sad she didn't know it was her sooner, but probably couldn't have handled the excitement.
Geraldine Doyle died of age-related causes this week at a nursing home in Lansing, Mich.
