CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman and two teen girls are hospitalized this morning after a hit-and-run car accident Sunday night in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

As WBBM Newsradio's Brandis Friedman reports, police say around 10:45 p.m. Sunday, two girls – ages 15 and 17 – and a 19-year-old woman were crossing Humboldt Drive at North Avenue, when a northbound Nissan Sentra hit them.

The 17-year-old was hospitalized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition with head injuries. The 15- and 19-year-olds were listed in serious condition with a broken pelvis and a head injury, respectively, at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Police say the 20-year-old driver of the car initially fled the scene and drove his car into a median. The car stopped, and the man got and tried to run away.

The driver was later taken to the Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where he was reported in stable condition. Police say his male passenger also tried to run away from the scene.

As of Monday morning, neither had been charged. Police say alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.

DUI charges are pending against the driver, and the passenger may be cited for failing to report an accident.
