Woman Struck, Killed By Truck Driver In West Loop
UPDATED: CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman was killed when she was struck by a semitrailer truck in the West Loop this morning.
Police said the crash happened in the 800 block of West Randolph Street about 8:30 a.m..
The woman died on the scene.
The woman was crossing Randolph Street when the truck, which was headed west on Randolph, hit her, police said.
The driver of the truck remained on the scene, police said.
"He was obviously distraught, he was in tears," Joseph Giannini, who witnessed the crash, told CBS 2.
The accident may have been caused by men harassing and distracting the truck driver.
Giannini said people often chase down the trucks, hoping to convince the drivers to give them money in exchange for helping them unload their deliveries at the nearby Fulton Market.
