Woman Struck By Lightning In Bolingbrook
(CBS) – A 34-year-old woman was struck by lightning in the southwest suburb of Bolingbrook Thursday afternoon and suffered severe injuries, according to witnesses.
The woman, who is from Berwyn, was walking in the 300 block of Janes Avenue around 2 p.m. when she apparently was hit by lightning, a spokesperson for the village tells CBS 2.
Witness Joseph Ings said he administered CPR chest compressions, as 9-1-1 dispatchers walked him through the process. He says a headset the woman was wearing was melted, and she had suffered serious burns.
"She was in rough shape," Ings tells CBS 2's Dana Kozlov.
Lifelong family friend Cristina Bruno identified the victim as Jennifer Contreras.
The lightning-strike victim was taken in serious condition to a hospital, officials said. Further details were not available.
