Woman Stabbed To Death In Chicago Lawn
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman was stabbed to death at a party Monday night in the South Side Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
The 18-year-old woman was at a party at an apartment building in the 2900 block of West 63rd Street when she got into an argument with a man about 10:15 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
After the argument had ended, the man, 37, allegedly grabbed a knife and started chasing people in the apartment, eventually stabbing the woman multiple times, including in her eye and armpit, Greer said. The man then fled the scene, where police later found a knife.
Stephanie Serrano, of the 8300 block of South Komensky Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:12 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
The 37-year-old man walked in to the 8th District police station shortly after the incident, claiming he was beaten, Greer said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was treated for a head laceration.
Further investigation led police to believe the man was the suspect they were looking for from the stabbing incident, Greer said. He was being questioned by police Tuesday morning as Area Central detectives investigate.
