CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman was stabbed and critically wounded Friday evening on busy Halsted Street in Pilsen.

At 7:15 p.m., a 35-year-old woman got into a quarrel with another woman and a man near 23rd and Halsted streets. The quarrel turned physical when the man took out a sharp object and stabbed a woman, police said.

The victim suffered one puncture wound to the abdomen and one to the arm. She was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, police said.

The scene of the stabbing was right outside the Pilsen migrant shelter at 2241 S. Halsted St., which is set to close on Oct. 1.

Police did not immediately confirm reports that the stabbing was associated with the shelter.

Late Friday, no one was in custody and Belmont Area detectives were investigating.
