Woman Sexually Assaulted In Niles Tanning Salon

NILES (CBS) -- A convicted sex offender sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman inside the north suburban tanning salon where she worked.

Firas Ayoubi, 27, of the 5500 block of Normandy in Chicago, has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, attempted aggravated robbery, kidnapping and unlawful restraint in connection with the incident Dec. 4 at Palm Beach Tan at 5653 Touhy Ave. in Niles, according to Nile police.

Police said Ayoubi entered the salon shortly after the employee opened for the day, wearing a mask that partially covered the lower half of his face. He approached the woman in the back of the business, forcibly dragged her to the rear of a storeroom, and sexually assaulted her, police said.

He then dragged her by her hair and arm toward the front of the salon, demanding to know where the cash drawer was located. Police said a 60-year-old customer then entered the business and when the woman asked him for help, he ordered the attacker to let her go.

The witness, fearing the man had a weapon, left the store and the woman followed him while he called 911, police said. The offender drove off in a black SUV, followed for several blocks by the witness before he lost the vehicle.

Niles detectives identified Ayoubi as the suspect and took him into custody in Schiller Park following a surveillance operation.

Ayoubi is a registered sex offender with a conviction in Kendall County for indecent solicitation of a child, according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry. That crime involved a 12-year-old girl and occurred when Ayoubi was 21.
