Woman Raped In Gangway In Hermosa
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police have issued a warning to residents in the Hermosa neighborhood, after a young woman was raped in a gangway on Tuesday.
According to a community alert, a 19-year-old woman was walking near Pulaski Road and Armitage Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, when a man grabbed her and pulled her into a gangway.
The man sexually assaulted the woman and fled the scene on a bicycle, police said.
Hermosa resident Veronica Feliciano said the area where the woman was attackd isn't safe.
"It's not. Never for a long time, it hasn't been. … It's not shocking that this happened," she said. "I hope they catch him. I have teenagers, and I don't even let them go out anywhere after 5:30, because you don't know what you're going to bump into."
Investigators said the suspect was wearing a letterman-style jacket, a white tank top, and blue jeans.
Police warned residents to walk in pairs, and travel in well-lit areas.
