Woman Plows Car Into Bridgeport Walgreens
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 77-year-old motorist said she hit hit the gas instead of the brakes and ended up smashing up the front glass doors of a Walgreens Saturday morning in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the South Side.
The wreck occurred at 10:30 a.m. at Walgreens, 3000 S. Halsted St., according to Deering District police Lt. Shawn Joyce.
The 77-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue, apparently trying to park in a handicapped space close to the front doors of the store.
"She said she stepped on the gas instead of the brake,'' Joyce said.
The car plowed into the glass sliding doors, and broke the glass and the door frame, but did not cause structural damage to the building Joyce said. And no one was hurt, including the woman, who refused medical attention.
She was driven home by police and was issued a citation for negligent driving, according to Joyce, who declined to release her name.
