Woman Killed, Man Seriously Injured In 4-Car Avondale Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman was killed Sunday morning after a four-car crash that also left her husband seriously injured in the Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
About 7 a.m., a white Jaguar with an Illinois license plate reading "DO R DI" was headed westbound on West Belmont Avenue and ran a red light at the intersection with North Kedzie Avenue, according to a police source.
The Jaguar hit the passenger side of a black Chevrolet Cobalt headed northbound on Kedzie, causing the Cobalt to spin and hit two other cars headed southbound, the source said.
The woman in the Cobalt, thought to be in her 50s, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to Chicago Police. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately provide additional information.
Her 64-year-old husband who was driving was also taken to Illinois Masonic in serious condition, police said.
Three people in the other two cars declined medical attention at the scene, Chicago Fire Media Affairs Chief Juan Hernandez said.
The driver of the Jaguar ran away after the crash, the police source said. Investigators believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
