Woman Killed In Southwest Side Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman was killed in an early Saturday crash on the Southwest Side.
The woman -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 43-year-old Reyna Aberca -- was driving a Nissan Centra north on South Western Avenue when she swerved into the other northbound lane and struck a Chevrolet Malibu near West 32nd Street, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.
Aberca was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. She was pronounced dead at the hospital Saturday, the medical examiner's office said.
Police initially thought Aberca, of an unidentified home address, may have swerved because of a medical condition, but a Sunday autopsy determined she died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle accident, the medical examiner's office said. The death was ruled an accident.
The male driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was not hospitalized and nobody else was in either vehicle, police said.
The driver of the Malibu was not cited or charged, police said.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
