Woman Killed, 3 Others Injured In Southwest Side Crash
UPDATED 03/23/12 11:53 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One woman is dead and three others are injured after a car crash on the city's Southwest Side.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports the crash happened just after 4 a.m. on Pulaski Road just north of Archer Avenue, in the Archer Heights neighborhood.
Police say one car rear-ended another, forcing the second car to slam into a pole.
The woman who died was a passenger in the back seat of the car that was rear-ended. She was 23 and was from Oak Lawn, but her identity was not immediately available, the Sun-Times Media Wire reported.
She pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 4:26 a.m., according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
There was no word on the conditions of the other victims.
Pulaski Road was closed at Archer Avenue as police investigated the accident. CBS 2's Derrick Young reports No. 53 Pulaski buses were rerouted.
The road was back open by 6:15 a.m., but the wrecked car remained at the scene. Police Major Accidents Investigation Unit investigators and evidence technicians were on the scene.
Habermehl warns that many of the roads are wet and slippery, and morning commuters should take their time.
