Woman Jumps To Her Death Along I-80
TINLEY PARK (STMW) -- The death of a woman who jumped from an overpass onto I-80 Wednesday near southwest suburban Tinley Park has been ruled a suicide.
The Will County Sheriff's office received a call at 5:43 p.m. Wednesday from a woman driving on 80th Avenue near Tinley Park who said she saw a woman holding onto the bridge rail over Interstate 80, spokesman Ken Kaupas said.
"Deputies were dispatched immediately, but the victim had already jumped," Kaupas said.
Leslie M. Reger, 47, of Tinley Park was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m. at St. James Hospital and Health Center in Olympia Fields, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy Thursday determined Reger died of multiple injuries from a fall, and ruled her death a suicide, the medical examiner's office said.
Kaupas said "numerous witnesses" from the interstate saw the woman jump. It did not appear she was struck by a vehicle after landing.
