Woman In Coma After Hit-And-Run On West Side
UPDATED 07/27/12 6:16 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 52-year-old woman was trying to cross a West Side street when she was hit by a car that didn't stop. Now she's fighting for her life, hospitalized in critical condition.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports the hit-and-run was captured on several surveillance cameras in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
The woman was getting ready to cross Pulaski Road east on Lake Street, at the crosswalk, when she was hit by a car.
Surveillance video shows the woman freezing after taking a few steps, apparently panicking as she sees the car heading right toward her.
The impact sent her onto the car. She fell off, onto Pulaski, a short distance from the crosswalk.
Shocked onlookers rushed to help her, as the person driving the car just kept going.
The woman remained in critical condition Friday.
Police described the car they're looking for as a gray or champagne four-door car. It's possibly a Chevy Malibu or Impala.
They describe the car as a four-door vehicle, possibly with an Illinois license plate with a combination of the numbers 621800.
The car is believed to have damage to the front end, hood or front windshield.
