Woman Charged With DUI After SUV Flies Off Edens In Wilmette
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A north suburban woman is charged with DUI after a crash on the Edens Expressway early Monday that launched her SUV over a fence and left it upside-down in the parking lot of a shopping center.
An Illinois State Police trooper said Cassandra Bauer, 25, of 2000 Meadow Lane in Bannockburn, has been chargedf with DUI for the crash that left herself and another driver injured.
Wilmette Fire Department paramedics took Bauer to Evanston Hospital, and a 41-year-old Indiana man to Skokie Hospital, after Bauer's SUV smashed into the rear of the man's car as both headed north on the Edens around 2 a.m. Monday.
The SUV then flew off the expressway, flipped several times, hit a tree, then bounced over a fence to land on its roof in the far north parking lot of Edens Plaza at 3232 Lake Ave. in Wilmette.
"She must have been going pretty fast," Wilmette Police Chief Brian King said Monday. Wilmette officers, who aided state troopers on the scene, said passers-by pulled Bauer from her vehicle.
Although she said that two or three people had been with her, an extensive search turned up no other victims, King said. A witness who saw the SUV on the highway before the crash reportedly told investigators that the woman was the only person inside.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 19 in Chicago, according to police.
