Woman Distraught After Gunshot Kills Dog In Addison

ADDISON, Ill. (CBS) -- Addison police are investigating the fatal shooting of a dog on Saturday, near a forest preserve.

As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, police say the woman was walking her Yorkshire terrier around Fullerton and Villa avenues – near the Cricket Creek Forest Preserve – when she heard a faint pop sort of like a firecracker.

She told police her dog, Coco, collapsed and was bleeding, the Chicago Tribune reported. The woman rushed the dog to a veterinarian, where it was determined that the animal had suffered a gunshot wound.

Surgery could not be performed at the vet's office, so the woman had to take the dog to another vet, where the animal was euthanized, the Tribune reported.

The woman told police she was too traumatized to take officers to the site where the shooting occurred, the newspaper reported.
