Woman Dies After I-80 Crash
HOBART, Ind. (STMW) - A Gary woman died Saturday after a van driven by her husband struck a crash barrier and struck another vehicle on Interstate 80 near Hobart.
Indiana State Police troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash shortly after 6 p.m., according to a release.

Charles O. Hawkins, 74, of Gary was driving a 2006 Chrysler van eastbound on Interstate 80 when it hit a crash barrier at the northbound exit to Interstate 65, which caused the van to spin out of control, according to the release. The van then struck an east bound 2003 Toyota that was attempting to avoid the initial crash.
Hawkins wife, Dorothula Martin, 78, of Gary was a front seat passenger and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. Hawkins was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital in Hobart with chest pains.
The driver of the Toyota, Kaleena A. Parker-Hood, 27, of Bridgeman, Mich. was not injured in the crash, according to the release.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. Neither alcohol nor road conditions appear to be a factor in the crash.
