Woman Dies After Gruesome Halloween Stabbing
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was so enraged over a missing bag of candy he plunged a knife into a woman multiples times on Halloween. He was arrested and charges are expeced to be upgraded for him after her death Saturday night.
Maria Adams, 49, of 8214 S. May St. was stabbed multiple times at 7150 S. Winchester Ave. on Halloween, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Adams was pronounced dead Saturday at 9:05 p.m. at John H. Stroger JR. Hospital of Cook County, according to the medical examiner's office.
Her acquaintance, Ledell Peoples, 55, of 7100 block of South Winchester, was arrested that day after allegedly stabbing her and charged with attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
Peoples became engaged about a missing bag of Halloween candy and plunged a knife into Adams multiple times, said Mirabelli.
At some point during their fight, a plate was thrown and Peoples suffered a cut over his eye, said the officer. He was treated at Holy Cross Hospital for the laceration, according to a police News Affairs release.
Peoples was booked into Cook County Jail Thursday where a judge ordered him held on $2 million bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.
An autopsy is expected later Sunday and charges are expected to be upgraded.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
