Goenne and a 59-year-old male friend were leaving an event at the Columbia Yacht Club when the accident happened.

The man was pushing Goenne in a wheelchair when he stumbled, and the two fell into DuSable Harbor at 111 N. Lake Shore Dr.

When officers arrived, they found the man clinging to part of the dock yelling for help, as another man lay on the dock trying to keep Goenne from becoming completely submerged.

Officers from the police Marine Unit came to the rescue. Police pulled the woman from the water, while Fire Department crews pulled the man from the water, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The two responding members of the Marine Unit had just finished a drill on near-drowning victims.

Goenne had no pulse at the scene, but was revived.

Police are treating the death as an accident, and an autopsy is scheduled for later Thursday.
