Woman Dies After Shooting, Bringing Holiday Total To 7

CHICAGO (CBS) - A 22-year-old Calumet City woman is dead after being shot in Jackson Park, bringing the total number of people killed in a violent period on Memorial Day afternoon and night to at least seven.
Shortly after 11 p.m., Aeyanuna Rogers and a friend were walking to a park restroom in the 5700 block of South Lake Shore Drive – close to the Museum of Science and Industry – when they heard a fight break out between a group of males, police said.
Someone in the group pulled a handgun and fired multiple times, striking the woman in the head, police said.
Rogers, of the 600 block of Escanaba Avenue in Calumet City, was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Hospital. She was later pronounced dead at 1:58 p.m.
A 17-year-old boy was also shot in the incident, police said. He was taken to Provident Hospital of Cook County by his mother.
No one was in custody as of late Tuesday.
At least six other people were shot and killed between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. At least 19 more were wounded, and at least three others were shot and wounded during the daylight hours Tuesday.
