Woman Struck By SUV While Putting Child In Car Seat
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman hit while getting her child into a car seat in the South Chicago neighborhood remained in critical condition Friday.
The 29-year-old woman was struck by a white sport-utility vehicle about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 8700 block of South Burley Avenue, police said.
The driver, who was traveling east on 87th Street, did not stop after hitting her and the driver's side of her Chevrolet Impala, and remains at-large early Friday, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
"To me, that was the worst thing you could do to somebody is do that as she's putting her kid in the car," witness Kimberly Landfair tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards.
The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she remained in critical condition as of noon Friday, police said.
The child was not hurt. The mother was either just putting the child into the car, or had just finished doing so, and was making her way to the driver's seat when she was struck, Perez said.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
Neighbors said the mother did not live on the block but was visiting a resident.
