Woman Could Face Murder Charge After Death Of Man Intentionally Hit By Car
CHICAGO (STMW) - A woman charged with intentionally running a man over with her car after a fight last month on the Southwest Side could soon face first-degree murder charges after the man died Tuesday from injuries he suffered in the attack, police said.
Lorena Rivera, 27, of the 4100 block of South Archer Avenue, was arrested Oct. 22 and charged with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and fleeing from the scene after she allegedly ran over a man about 5:15 a.m. Oct. 9 in the 4000 block of South Francisco Avenue, police said.
Victor Ybarra, 42, of the 4100 block of South Richmond Street, was pronounced dead at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday. An autopsy on Wednesday found he died of a trachea-bronchial tree hemorrhage and cerebral injuries from a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian. The death was ruled a homicide, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Police said Rivera got into an argument with Ybarra, then returned with a vehicle and intentionally ran him over.
Ybarra was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition but was later transferred to Swedish Covenant Hospital for rehabilitation, police said.
Rivera remains ordered held on $500,000 bond and will appear for a court hearing on Dec. 1, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.
