Woman Cited In Crash That Injured 2 Police Officers
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A motorist who collided with a police cruiser en route to a call with its lights flashing and sirens blaring was cited multiple times for causing the Tuesday night crash, police said.
Two police officers were injured, as was the 34-year-old woman cited in the crash, which occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said. An occupant of a third vehicle was also injured, according to police.
While police reported that only four people were injured in the crash, Chicago Fire Department officials said an additional two people were also injured.
At the time, the police cruiser was traveling north, approaching the intersection of West 79th Street and South Racine Avenue with its emergency equipment activated, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old woman, who lives in the adjacent Ashburn neighborhood, was traveling west, police said.
Both vehicles collided as they passed through the intersection, sideswiping a third vehicle facing south that was stopped at a light, police said.
The two officers were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County with non life-threatening injuries, police said.
The 34-year-old woman was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital for treatment, police said.
The occupant of the third vehicle was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital with minor injuries, police said. But according to the Chicago Fire Department, two additional people who were involved in the crash were also taken to Saint Bernard Hospital. Their conditions were not known.
Police cited the motorist with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and damage to city property.
