Woman Chases, Catches Purse Snatcher In Evanston
EVANSTON, Ill. (STMW) -- Never try to separate a woman from her designer purse. A north suburban woman chased and caught a man who snatched her $2,600 Louis Vuitton purse through her vehicle window as she waited in line for a car wash in Evanston on Monday.
The 49-year-old Wilmette woman was initially startled by the robbery, which occurred at a car wash in the 2200 block of Ashland Ave., but soon gave chase, and the suspect returned the purse near Ashland Avenue and Payne Street about 4:10 p.m., Evanston police said.
The suspect then tried to run but two witnesses and an Evanston police officer helped her chase him, Evanston police said.
Steven Elmo Hatfield, 44, of the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue in Evanston was charged with one felony count of burglary, Evanston police said.
Hatfield is already on parole for retail theft and a parole violation warrant was issued, Evanston police said.
Hatfield is expected in court April 16 in Skokie.
