Woman Charged With Throwing Rubbing Alcohol In CTA Bus Driver's Face
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An unruly CTA passenger accused of throwing rubbing alcohol in a bus driver's face after a Friday argument over an expired fare card on the Near West Side was ordered held on $75,000 bond Sunday.
Patricia Washington, 44, of the 6000 block of North Ridge Avenue, was charged with one count of aggravated battery to a transit employee, according to a police News Affairs release.
Police said Washington began arguing with the bus driver about an expired fare card about 6 p.m. Friday and became irate and began screaming. Before she got off the bus she threw a liquid -- believed to be rubbing alcohol -- in the driver's face near West Harrison Street and South Damen Avenue.
The driver, a man, chased after the passenger and detained her until police arrived.
On Sunday, Washington was ordered held on $75,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office's website. She will next appear in court March 14.
The woman is believed to have suffered scrapes, while the driver suffered an eye injury, police said. Both were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County for a medical evaluation, where the CTA driver was treated and released.
