Woman Charged With Stealing Liquor By The Cartful
ANTIOCH, Ill. (STMW) - A woman who allegedly tried to steal liquor by the shopping cart at grocery stores in north suburban Antioch and Fox Lake has been arrested.
Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville said Kimberly Rothunde, 43, of Antioch, was charged with six counts of retail theft after she attempted to take a shopping cart full of alcohol out of the Jewel store in Antioch last Friday.
She left without the $588.35 of liquor, but employees provided a good description of the vehicle. Police located the vehicle at Main Street and Route 173, and Rothunde was taken into custody.
Somerville said older case files were reviewed and an investigation was conducted that indicated Rothunde was a suspect in an incident that occurred Sept. 8 at the Piggly Wiggly. Store employees also recognized Rothunde from prior thefts that occurred Aug. 20 to 23, he said. In each incident in August at Piggly Wiggly, two bottles of Grey Goose Vodka were taken. The total six bottles were valued at $173.94.
Fox Lake police became involved due to two similar incidents at the local Dominick's store, where shopping carts full of liquor were taken. That investigation is continuing, said Somerville, who praised the police work and cooperation between the departments.
