Woman Charged With Punching Cop, Dragging Her With Car
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 38-year-old woman has been charged with punching a Chicago police officer and dragging her down the street with her car, as she tried to flee a traffic stop in the Gresham neighborhood.
Catherine Brown has been charged with one count each of aggravated battery to a police officer and attempted first-degree murder, police said. She also was issued four traffic citations, including failing to carry her driver's license.
Brown was due in court Wednesday afternoon for a bond hearing.
Monday night, a Chicago police officer pulled Brown over on the 8300 block of South Kerfoot Avenue for a traffic violation.
When the officer approached the vehicle, Brown allegedly punched the officer in the face, grabbed her protective vest, and drove off, dragging the officer down the street before she was thrown clear from the car.
Brown crashed a short time later, and was arrested by other officers responding to the scene.
The 30-year-old officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released. Police said she was banged up, but was resting at home on Tuesday. She's a five-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, officials said.
