Woman Charged With DUI After Fatal Head-On Collision In Channahon
CHANNAHON, Ill. (STMW) -- Police say a drunken driver killed a 46-year-old Palatine man in a head-on collision in Will County on Friday.
Tiffany N. Unland, 30, of Coal City, was being held in the Will County Jail on charges of reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.
Chief Jeff Wold said the crash happened about 4 p.m. as Unland was driving a pickup truck on Route 6 near Youngs Road, east of Interstate 55.
"The eastbound pickup crossed into the westbound lane and struck a sedan head-on," Wold said. Neither driver was carrying passengers and both were wearing seatbelts.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was being withheld from until family could be notified, police said.
The crash closed Route 6 for several hours.
Unland was hospitalized after the crash before being arrested.
In May 2004, Unland was working as an exotic dancer when she claimed she was gang-raped and robbed by four men driving between Somonauk and New Lenox. State police investigated and reportedly learned Unland had spent her rent money to party and use cocaine and concocted the assault story to explain the missing cash to her husband. She was arrested on a charge of making a false police report.
