Woman Beaten, Sexually Assaulted In Lakeview
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police have issued an alert for residents of the city's Lakeview neighborhood after a woman was sexually assaulted while walking home from a CTA station Tuesday evening.
The incident happened at 6:50 p.m. on the 1300 block of West Barry Avenue. As the victim was walking home from a train station in the Lakeview area, a man approached her from behind and demanded money.
According to a community alert from Belmont Area detectives, he implied that he had a gun, at which point he pushed the woman into an alley where he battered and sexually assaulted her.
The offender was described as a black man, between 17 and 24 years old, approximately 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-8, with a slim build and light brown complexion. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket and dark pants.
Detectives were not providing the exact location of the attack Thursday afternoon.
Police advise residents to be aware of this situation and alert neighbors in the area about the crime. If possible, they say, don't walk alone and stay in well-lit areas. They also encourage residents to call 911 to report any suspicious person(s), vehicle(s) or activity in their neighborhood.
Anyone who may have any information about this crime is asked to contact Belmont Area detectives, at (312) 744-8261.
