ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (CBS) -- A woman has been arrested for drunk driving, after she escaped serious injury when her car burst into flames following a crash on the Eisenhower Expressway overnight.
Illinois State Police said, around 1:40 a.m., the woman's minivan went out of control in the westbound lanes of the Eisenhower near Biesterfield Road in Elk Grove Village and slammed into a light pole on the right shoulder before crossing over to the concrete median on the left shoulder.
An off-duty firefighter was the first person on the scene and told the woman to get out of the minivan after the crash, as she sat inside the vehicle talking on her cell phone.
A short time after the woman got out, the minivan became completely engulfed in flames.
The woman was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village to be treated for minor injuries. Police said she was later arrested for DUI, although her name and age were not immediately available.
