The victim was running along the usually busy Schaumburg Road near Barrington Road at 9:45 p.m. when a man walking along the sidewalk stepped in front of her, tore her clothes and dragged her to the ground.
"These things generally don't happen in the Schaumburg area, let alone on a major roadway, prior to 10 o'clock at night," Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl tells WBBM Newsradio. "This is pretty unusual."
The victim ran to a nearby retail plaza for help.
News of the attack has disturbed many living near where it happened.
Police released a composite sketch of the suspect Friday evening. They say he's Hispanic, 18 or 19 years old, and is 5-foot, 10-inches tall, with short hair. He was wearing a white tank top and blue work pants during that attack.
Police hope someone may have seen the suspect.
