Woman Attacked On Quiet Andersonville Street
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police have issued a community alert, after a man tried to sexually assault a woman in a quiet section of the Andersonville neighborhood.
As CBS 2's Susanna Song reports, the man approached the 22-year-old woman about 4:35 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of West Carmen Avenue, just steps from the neighborhood's trendy and fashionable shopping district.
The short block runs between Clark Street and Ashland Avenue, and is dominated by two large apartment buildings, a parking lot, and the sides of buildings housing an AT&T switching center and the Tokyo Marina restaurant.
He grabbed the woman and hit her before trying to assault her, according to the alert from Lincoln District police.
It is not clear where exactly on the block the woman was assaulted, if a weapon was used, if the woman was injured, and how she got away.
Police describe the assailant as white Hispanic, in his 30s, standing 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, and a light beard and mustache. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap backward, and a white sports team-type jacket.
Police pointed out that the suspect was carrying a tan messenger style bag with a shoulder strap.
