Woman, 3 Kids Hit By CTA Bus In Lakeview
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A mother and her three children were hit by a CTA bus Monday morning in the Lakeview neighborhood.
Police said a bus headed north on Halsted Street hit the 34-year-old mother and kids – a 6-year-old, a 2-year-old, and an 8-week-old – near Waveland Avenue around 10:10 a.m.
The children were taken to Lurie Children's Hospital, according to the Fire Department. Two children were in serious but stable condition. The other child's condition was described as stable. The mother refused treatment, but went to the hospital with her children.
"The infant flew out of the mom's hand and hit the concrete and it was just a horrific incident," witness Tico Valle tells CBS 2's Jeremy Ross.
"No one wants to see someone, especially a baby, being strapped into a gurney," says Casey Dugan, who saw the aftermath. "Things can change in an instant. I turned around, and that's what was going on."
The 57-year-old bus driver was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The driver was cited by police.
The CTA could not be reached for comment.
