Woman, 21, Killed In Indiana Crash
CROWN POINT, Ind. (CBS) -- A 21-year-old woman was killed overnight in a crash on Interstate 65 in Northwest Indiana.
Elizabeth Tilley, of Wheatfield, Ind., was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt around 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, in the left lane of northbound I-65 near the Crown Point exit, Indiana state police said. She apparently became distracted and went off the road and into the median.
Tilley's car then flipped over, state police said.
Tilley was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead of multiple blunt force trauma injuries at St. Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point, Ind., state police said.
The northbound left lane was closed until just after midnight Wednesday morning due to the crash, state police said.
Police said the crash should serve as a warning to buckle up.
"This is an example of where it takes only a few seconds for a person to buckle up," Indiana State Police Trooper Fred Blohm said in a news release. "By wearing your seat belt this greatly increases the chance of surviving or lessening the severity of injuries in a crash."
