Wolves' MacTavish Resigns To Join Oilers As VP
(CBS) Chicago Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish resigned Monday to join the Edmonton Oilers as senior vice president of operations.
MacTavish spent just one season with the Wolves, leading them to a 42-27-4-3 record en route to winning the AHL's Midwest Division. The Wolves fell to the San Antonio Rampage in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
"The Chicago Wolves would like to thank Craig for all his contributions to the Wolves organization this past year," Wolves general manager Wendell Young said in a statement. "We would also like to wish him and his family the best on his future endeavors."
MacTavish will re-join the Oilers after serving as the organization's head coach from 2000-09. He compiled a 301-252-47-56 record and .537 winning percentage in eight seasons in Edmonton.
The Wolves, the top minor league affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, said the search for a new coach is already underway. The Vancouver Sun reported former Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Scott Arniel, who previously coached the Canucks' farm team when it was located in Winnipeg, could be a possible replacement.
