Wolves Fall Short In San Antonio

The Chicago Wolves opened scoring with a power-play goal, but couldn't find the back of the net again, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Rampage at the AT&T Center Friday night.

Left wing Nigel Dawes scored the only goal for Chicago (25-21-2-3).

The Wolves got on board 8:40 into the game with a power-play strike when Dawes backhanded the puck from the top of crease past San Antonio goaltender Matt Climie.

Climie (17-11-0) recorded 37 saves for San Antonio.

San Antonio (29-18-2-0) tied the score, 1-1, on the power-play when defenseman Garrett Stafford fired a shot through traffic, beating Chicago goaltender Peter Mannino 12:08 into the middle frame.

Left wing Mikkel Boedker took a feed at the doorstep and slid the puck into the empty side of the net to give San Antonio a 2-1 lead, 16:50 into the second period.

The Rampage brought their lead to 3-1, 3:58 into the final frame with another power-play goal when Boedker blasted a shot from the point past Mannino, stick side.

Mannino (12-11-2) stopped 18 shots in the loss.

San Antonio right wing Brett MacLean closed out scoring, 4-1, with an empty net goal.

The Wolves play their final game before the All-Star break against the Oklahoma City Barons at Cox Convention Center on Saturday at 7 p.m.
