Wolves Come Back To Grab Shootout Win
The Chicago Wolves scored with 34 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and then prevailed in a 10-round shootout to earn a 5-4 shootout win against the Oklahoma City Barons at Cox Convention Center Wednesday night.
Forwards Ryan Garbutt (2G), Andre Deveaux and Fredrik Pettersson lit the lamp in regulation, while Michael Davies and Pettersson converted in the shootout for the Wolves. Goaltender Drew MacIntyre thwarted nine of the Barons 10 shootout attempts.
Garbutt popped the puck in the net from the doorstep past Oklahoma City goaltender Martin Gerber to tie the score at four and force overtime with only 34 seconds left in the game.
Chicago (25-20-2-3) opened scoring 5:03 into the game with a two-man advantage power-play strike when Deveaux redirected defenseman Paul Postma's one-timer from the point past Gerber.
With the Wolves still working on the power-play Garbutt ripped a long side shot past Gerber 47 seconds later making the Chicago lead 2-0.
Oklahoma City (25-16-2-5) brought the score within one, 2-1, 12:43 into the first frame when Teemu Hartikainen ripped a shot from the right faceoff circle past MacIntyre, stick side.
Barons left wing Greg Stewart redirected defenseman Alex Plante's shot from the point to tie the game at two, 3:28 into the second period.
The Barons took a 3-2 lead 28 seconds after when center Brad Moran redirected a shot past MacIntyre.
The Wolves tied the score at three, 16:33 into the middle frame when Pettersson redirected defenseman Andrey Zubarev's shot, which bounced off Gerber and trickled over the goal line.
Gerber (16-10-3) recorded 33 saves for Oklahoma City in regulation and overtime and stopped eight of 10 chances in the shootout.
Oklahoma City took the 4-3 lead when left wing Matt Marquardt blasted a shot beating MacIntyre, glove side, 7:52 into the final frame.
MacIntyre (8-5-1) kicked out 25 shots in regulation and overtime.
The Wolves continue their three-game road swing against the San Antonio Rampage at the AT&T Center on Fri., Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
