Wittenmyer: Epstein Didn't Need To Interview Sandberg
(WSCR) One day after it became clear the Cubs wouldn't hire Ryne Sandberg as their next manager, lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan told The Score he though Theo Epstein was being childish by not interviewing Sandberg.
Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times joined The Mully and Hanley Show to defend Epstein's actions.
"Theo sat down with Ryno a year ago -- he did interview him for the Pawtucket job (in the Red Sox's organization). He has an idea of what Ryne has to say. I think it's the opposite of childish that you get on the phone with him right away when you know he's not in the mix and you give him the respect and the courtesy to tell him up front."
