CHICAGO (STMW) - More than 220 flights have been canceled at Chicago's airports Sunday due to rain conditions in the Chicago area that have triggered a flood advisory.
The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory Sunday night for the Des Plaines River in Riverside affecting Cook County and at Fox River in Montgomery that affects Kane and Kendall counties.
Heavy rainfall of an inch or more across northern Lake and McHenry counties has led to a rise in rivers, according to the National Weather Service. Additional rainfall of less than one-quarter inch is expected overnight before transitioning into snow Monday morning and afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to hold steady with a low of 33 degrees Sunday night and a high near 34 degrees on Monday.
Rain conditions in the Chicago area and throughout the Midwest have led to more than 220 cancellations in and out of Chicago's airports, according to the city Department of Aviation.
Delays as of 8:30 p.m., at O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport were more than one hour for some airlines, according to the Aviation Department. More than 200 flights were canceled at O'Hare and more than 20 flights were canceled at Midway.
Passengers are advised to check airline websites for the status of flights, according to the Aviation Department.
