Winter Storm Watch For Northern Suburbs
(STMW) -- A winter storm could drop up to three inches of snow and cover northern Illinois in ice by Sunday afternoon.
A winter storm watch will be in effect from late Saturday through Sunday afternoon for Lake and McHenry counties, according to the National Weather Service website. The watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulation that may impact travel.
An area of low pressure is expected to produce significant precipitation from late Saturday through Sunday, the weather service said. The storm is expected to start as snow and change to freezing rain Sunday morning.
Snow accumulations of one to three inches and ice accumulation of more than a quarter inch are possible by Sunday afternoon, the weather service said.
