Winnetka To Refurbish 2 Garbage Trucks
WINNETKA, Ill. (CBS) -- Recycling is being taken to a whole new level in Winnetka.
Instead of spending $435,000 to replace three old garbage trucks, the North Shore suburb is refurbishing them instead. For that, the cost drops to $58,000, a mere 15 percent of the cost the village would have incurred if the trucks had been trashed.
There was a line item in the Winnetka village capital budget for $145,000 to buy a new garbage truck this year, but instead , it was refurbished with a new chassis and other improvements for $22,000, Winnetka public works director Steve Saunders told the Chicago Tribune.
Three companies have bid to work on the two remaining garbage trucks. The lowest, from Tri-Angle Fabrication and Body Co., has bid $35,670, the Tribune reported.
