17-Year-Old Dies After Weekend Car Crash
WEST CHICAGO, Ill. (STMW) - A 17-year-old west suburban boy died early Monday following a Saturday night traffic accident near West Chicago.
Jacob Carney of Winfield was pronounced dead at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield at 4:03 a.m., according to the DuPage County Coroner's office.
The crash happened about 9 p.m. Saturday on Garys Mill Road, east of Indian Knoll Road in unincorporated West Chicago when Carney apparently lost control of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta he was driving, a DuPage County Sheriff's office release said.
Carney was eastbound on Garys Mills when he lost control and rear-ended a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup that was leaving a residential driveway, the release said.
Carney was hospitalized and placed on life-support, the release said. The driver of the pickup, 52-year-old Steven Schultz of Wheaton, was apparently not hurt, the release said.
No autopsy was ordered by the coroner's office and no citations have been issued, although an investigation by sheriff's police is ongoing.
