Wind Blows Roof Off Skyline Stage At Navy Pier
CHICAGO (STMW) - Strong winds blew the entire roof off a Navy Pier stage Saturday afternoon. Nobody was injured.
Between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., the entire roof of the Pepsi Skyline Stage at Navy Pier blew off the structure, Navy Pier spokeswoman Delores Robinson said.
The National Weather Service reported wind gusts as high as 45 miles per hour Sunday.
The Pepsi Skyline Stage was closed for the season and nobody was injured, Robinson said.
All winter activities and events will continue as scheduled Sunday on Navy Pier, Robinson said.
The covered outdoor structure has no sides, and while the seating and performance area are exposed it had already been prepared for winter, Robinson said. The rain and snow itself is not expected to cause damage.
Navy Pier crews are still investigating Sunday afternoon, and neither a damage estimate nor how long it will take to repair were immediately available.
"We are still assessing damages to determine what is required to bring it back to its normal state," Robinson said. "It's still too early to tell total numbers and things of that sort … we do have staff that is assessing what needs to be done next."
Police could not immediately provide further details.
