Wilmette Man Dies After Falling Onto Glass Coffee Table
WILMETTE (STMW) -- A 58-year-old Wilmette man died early Sunday, after falling backwards onto a glass coffee table in his home.
Wilmette police responded at 12:12 a.m. to Brian C. Baker's home in the 1200 block of Ashland Avenue in the north suburb, according to a release from police.
When they found him he was bleeding severely from wounds that appeared to have been caused by shards of glass from the coffee table, caused after he fell backwards into the coffee table. Police found him conscious, on his kitchen floor.
Wilmette Fire Department personnel attempted to perform lifesaving procedures and took him to Evanston Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Baker was pronounced dead at Evanston Hospital at 12:47 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Wilmette police are conducting a death investigation, though they say that indications were that his death was accidental. An autopsy on Sunday found that Baker died of multiple sharp force injuries to the back caused by a fall onto a glass table, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
