Williams Must Prevent Peavy From Rushing Back
Coming back from a serious shoulder injury, Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy will be focused on proving that he can still be a dominant pitcher.
But the White Sox, and general manager Ken Williams specifically, need to make sure that Peavy doesn't rush back and re-injure himself.
"It'd probably be a good idea considering he's the guy responsible for the $16 million that Jake's earning this season," Joe Cowley, of the Chicago Sun-Times, said on the Danny Mac Show of Williams being the one to slow Peavy down to prevent an injury.

"And [Williams] really wants to make sure that he'll be able to," Cowley said, "if he isn't pitching a full season, at least when he does pitch make sure he's not going back on that DL or something major happens, because that's a big investment...The White Sox aren't like the [New York] Yankees, or Boston [Red Sox], where you can make a $16 million mistake and then go out and get someone to cover it up...They definitely need him.
"And look, Ken Williams is probably the only one that can talk him out of it. But again, Kenny is competitive too. So if [Peavy] goes out in spring training...and shows something, then you have to think...I think when they talk about a blip expected. I think that's when everyone is going to hold their breath and see exactly if it's a speed bump or if it's a huge pothole that does some damage."
