Will We See The Good Or The Ugly Side Of Beckham?
After having an impressive rookie season in 2009, last season was supposed to be Gordon Beckham's year to continue building on that. The start of the 2010 season showed little promise from the White Sox infielder.
"The way I see it is I had two seasons last year," Beckham said during spring training. " For the first half I was really good and for the second half I was really bad. I feel good about where I ended the season, even though I got hurt."
In Beckham's debut year in the MLB and for the Chicago White Sox in 2009, he was voted AL Rookie of the Year. The rising star also hit 14 homeruns and stole seven bases.
Almost half way through the 2010 season, Beckham had dropped to a .199 batting average with just one homerun. His swing mechanics suffered and Beckham's seemingly "swing at anything" performance gave too many easy outs.
After the All-Star break last season, Beckham seemed to get his confidence back and quickly became the rising star he was in 2009. He batted .310/.369/.516 in his final 67 games before getting hurt and hit eight homeruns.
"I don't think I ever didn't focus on baseball, but when you get pulled in a lot of different directions it gets kind of tough to let loose," the Sox infielder said defending his bad then good 2010 season.
