Will County Workers Prepare To Walk Off Job
CHICAGO (CBS) -- It appears there will be a walkout by about 1,000 Will County government workers.
County Workers May Strike
Contract negotiations broke down early Friday between the Will County Board and the union representing Will County workers.
Now AFSCME Local 1028 said the county's failure to compromise forced an end to the talks and will trigger a strike on Monday.
Will County officials said in a statement that the union was not willing to make a counter offer.
The union says the county wants to charge workers so much for health insurance coverage that it would wipe out any pay increase. The county said it can't break the bank to get a deal done.
Union spokesman Anders Lindall says that, if Will County officials want to make any movement for a settlement over the weekend, a strike could be avoided.
